VISUAL ARTS

Denmark has a long tradition for funding the visual arts. First it was the Church that commisioned the artists and later on also the Kings and the nobility. Today the modern Danish state continues this linie of funding of the visual arts.

The funding does not reflect political strategies, but is given after the evaluation of applicants by independent institutions or councils.

The Danish Arts Foundation (Statens Kunstfond)

Subsidies to the visual arts are managed by the Danish Arts Foundation  under the provisions of the Danish Arts Foundation Act of 1964, as amended in 1997.

Three-year working grants are awarded as subsidies to promising young talent and lifelong subsidies are awarded to artists recognised for long-term accomplishments within the arts. Travel scholarships are awarded to artists wishing to find inspiration abroad.
